For funders
SIMBA is free for families. It is funded by grants and by licensing to health plans and counties.
The problem
Language
Many forms and websites are only in English. SIMBA works in your language and can read each screen aloud.
Fear and changing rules
Many families worry that getting care could hurt them, and the rules keep changing. SIMBA explains what the rules say, in plain words, and never shares your information.
Less help available
Funding for in-person helpers was cut. SIMBA answers common questions so navigators have more time for families who need them most.
The pilot
- 30,000 to 50,000 users in Southern California
- Target cost: $6 to $10 per user
- Shared through community organizations and health plans, starting with CalOptima Health
What we will measure
- 15% more people finish Medi-Cal enrollment
- 25% less time to apply
- 80% or more understand their results
- 30% fewer routine questions for navigators
- Policy changes shown within 72 hours
Measured only with anonymous totals. SIMBA never tracks individuals.
